Louisiana State UniversityShreveport

The Southwest Decision Sciences Institute is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Binshan Lin to receive the Outstanding Educator Award for 2004.  Dr. Lin is currently full Professor of Operations & Information Management at Louisiana State University in Shreveport (LSUS).   He has an excellent record of over 15 years of outstanding commitment not only to teaching but also to research and service.  To quote his Dean, “He has given his talents, his heart, and his energies to our academic world.”

Professor Lin joined the faculty at LSUS in 1988 and has taught a wide variety of courses in Information Systems and in Operations at both the graduate and the undergraduate levels.  He is well-respected among his students and at the same time among his professional colleagues for his contributions to the body of knowledge, having published over 110 articles in refereed journals and over 90 articles in conference proceedings.

Teaching is achieved only through a commitment to preparation and hard work.  Professor Lin excels at both and he has received numerous awards to demonstrate this.  Six times, Professor Lin has received the Outstanding Faculty Award at LSUS and he is a member of the honorary societies Beta Gamma Sigma and Phi Kappa Phi.   He also received the IACIS 2003 Ben Bauman Award for Excellence, the Emerald Literati Club 2003 Award for Excellence, and the Alpha Iota Delta Innovative Education Paper Award at the SWDSI 2001 conference.

Currently beginning his responsibilities as the 2005 SWDSI President, Professor Lin has been very active in SWDSI over the years.  He has just completed his term of President-Elect, which followed his service as Program Chair for the highly successful 2003 conference.  Prior to that, Professor Lin served at numerous times and in various capacities, including track chair, session chair, discussant, and reviewer.  Not the least of his contributions has been his service as a liaison with other academic organizations and conferences, some of which he has also chaired.  These include service as Program Chair of the ACME 2003 International Conference and the LITRA 2003 Meeting and service as President of ACME (2003) and also of ICISA (2000).  Finally, Professor Lin serves as Editor-in-Chief or Associate Editor of seven academic journals.

In recognition of Professor Lin’s numerous contributions to academia, in particular in the classroom, the Southwest Region of the Decision Sciences Institute hereby presents this Outstanding Educator Award to Dr. Binshan Lin, March 4th, 2004.
